We exchanged 12 love letters
We were scouts in high school, and during sophomore year, we got assigned the same duty roster at a camping trip. Because of this, we began to have more in common, and to her, I became less annoying. I wrote her a love letter, declaring my feelings. We exchanged 12 of them, but it didn’t get past the ‘puppy love’ stage as we stayed friends. As an effort to warm her heart, I extended the invitation of picking her up on the way to school each morning. I made her chocolates even though it wasn’t Valentine’s Day. One day, I dreamt that she agreed to be my girlfriend, and to my dismay, my wonderful dream was cut short even before I could fully savour the moment. I called her and told her about my dream, and she replied, “Well, now your dream has come true.” This was 13 years ago.
My 2nd ‘dream-come-true’ moment was when she agreed to become my wife. For our pre-wedding photoshoot, we went to a small town called Kundasang, nestled halfway under the majestic Kinabalu Mountain in Sabah. The vast, green plains of nature left us completely in awe as a sense of comfortable silence surrounded us. The shoot was fun; we stumbled over the steps of the traditional dance, and our 4am shoot at the Desa Cattle Dairy Farm was met with winds so strong, they threatened to rip the train off my wife’s wedding dress! In 30 years’ time, we’ll still be able to laugh over these funny yet memorable moments we shared together.
